Flamengo, the largest champion of the Carioca Championship with 38 titles, starts its quest for consecutive titles against Boavista, this Sunday, at 4 pm, at the Batistão stadium, in Aracaju. The red-black team will play four games in the Northeast in this start of the season. The main squad, under the command of Filipe Luís, is doing the preseason in the United States. Only four players from the squad did not travel and are in playing condition: goalkeeper Dyogo Alves, defender Cleiton, midfielder Lorran, and striker Carlinhos. The team will be commanded by Cléber dos Santos and will have mostly players from the sub-20 team. Flamengo lost important names at the end of the last season, such as defender David Luiz, close to Fortaleza, and striker Gabigol, reinforcement of Cruzeiro. In the debut of the Carioca Championship, Flamengo defends its hegemony against the rival. In the overall retrospective, there were 22 games, with 17 victories of the red-black team, four draws, and only one of Boavista, which occurred in 2012. For the match, Flamengo got the release, together with the Superior Court of Sports Justice, to count on striker Carlinhos, who was serving a suspension for the expulsion against Grêmio, valid for the Brazilian Championship, thanks to the payment of a fine of R$ 20,000. With Carlinhos and with several players from the sub-20 team, Flamengo should take to the field with: Dyogo Alves; Pablo, Cleiton, Daniel Sales, and Zé Welinton; Rayan Lucas, Fabiano, and Lorran; Thiaguinho, Carlinhos, and Guilherme. Coach Cléber dos Santos said he is very happy with this opportunity to return to the club and be in charge of the main team. Sixth-placed last year, Boavista became a SAF and comes with bold objectives in the competition. The club bet on experienced players who know the Carioca Championship, such as defender Matheus Mascarenhas, ex-Fluminense, midfielder Erick Flores, ex-Flamengo, and defender Anderson Conceição, ex-Vasco. Coach Caio Zanardi prepares a team with: André; Ben-Hur, Anderson Conceição, Sheldon, and Alysson Vinícius; William Oliveira, Caetano, Erick Flores, and Felipe Resende; Abner Vinícius and Gabriel Conceição. The match will be played at the Batistão stadium, in Aracaju, at 4 pm, and can be watched live on Band and Canal Goat on Youtube. Flamengo seeks to maintain its hegemony in the Carioca Championship and start the year with a title. It will play with full strength from the fifth round, when the main squad returns from the preseason in the United States. Until then, the sub-20 team and the players who did not travel will have the chance to show their value. But Boavista will not be an easy opponent, with its experience and bold objectives. So the match promises to be exciting and full of goals. Flamengo needs to be careful and not let itself be carried away by the pressure of the rival. With the victory, the red-black team will take an important step towards the consecutive championship.
