Flamengo Rout Exposes Atlético-MG Turmoil; Bracks on Hulk Future
Flamengo's dominant 4-0 victory over Atlético-MG at Arena MRV deepens the crisis for Galo. Paulo Bracks addresses the turbulent situation and Hulk's absence.
Flamengo's crushing 4-0 victory over Atlético-MG this Sunday (26) at Arena MRV not only secured crucial points in the Brasileirão but also intensified the pressure and turmoil within the Minas Gerais club. Following the match, valid for the 13º round of the Brazilian Série A Championship, Atlético's CSO, Paulo Bracks, issued a statement addressing the turbulent moment and the situation involving striker Hulk.
Without taking questions, Bracks began his statement by acknowledging the delicate situation Atlético-MG is facing after the heavy defeat. "It's impossible not to talk about the game; we are going through a turbulent moment, and we will get through this turbulent moment with a lot of hard work," the executive stated, emphasizing the need for effort to turn the situation around.
Next, the director explained the background behind Hulk's absence from the match against Flamengo. According to Bracks, the club was approached the previous day by another Brazilian football team interested in the striker, which triggered talks with the player's staff.
"Regarding Hulk, we were approached yesterday by a Brazilian club. The player’s staff spoke with that club. A meeting was held this afternoon between us and the player’s staff, and no decision was made. We came to the game and here, in the locker room, a few hours before kickoff, by mutual agreement between both parties — player and club — it was decided that he would not play his 13º game," Paulo Bracks clarified.
The decision not to field Hulk was purely strategic. If the striker reached 13 appearances in the Brasileirão, he would be prevented from playing for another Série A team in this edition of the tournament. "That would make any domestic tranosfer in this window unfeasible," added Atlético-MG's CSO, highlighting the importance of keeping tranosfer options open.
Finally, Bracks remained cautious and indicated that a decision on the future of the number 7 should be made soon. "As soon as we have a decision, whether tomorrow or the day after, we will let all of you know," he concluded, leaving Hulk's future uncertain.
